BrandonWhat Distro?
So On my new super computer I want a good distro. I want either KDE, XFCE, or GNOME. And I want one that fits on a 700MB CD. But other than that I'm not really sure. I was thinking Kubuntu,Gentoo, or Linux Mint. But then I have questions: Will a 64Bit OS make any difference?, Is KDE 4 or 3.5.x the one to use?		2008-06-279:02 AM

Is your CPU 64-bit? It does make a difference since speed is definitely increased. Personally, I'm not a KDE person since it runs kind of slow but GNOME/XFCE/IceWM are all good if you want to get the maximum speed.		2008-06-2711:48 AM

I know I have never been a KDE guy, but with all the power (approx. 3x a p4 2.4 for reference) I figured I could handle it. If I want XFCE then I need a solid XFCE based distro and most XFCE ones are minimalistic, I want a monster OS. IceWM is too minimal and GNOME is almost as big as KDE with the same features that XFCE has. BTW: All Core 2 and Athlon 64, and some Pentium 4's are 64 bit.		2008-06-2711:59 AM

I have 8.4 Heron and 7.10 and let me say that Ubuntu is no light system! I had some P4s, 2.4Ghz,640MB RAM and Heron wasn't what I consider fast. Any one else try Linux Mint? I really like it, but because its 32Bit I may not use it.		2008-06-287:21 AM
