BrandonWhat other programming languages do you know?
What other programming languages do you know, and how do you use them? Besides BASIC, I know PHP/HTML, which I obviously use to code websites. Also I've been learning C++ at school and so far all I use it for is class work.

The main ones for me are QB, freebasic, & C. I've been mainly programming C on linux lately. I know bits & pieces of many other ones as well. Essentially, the programming language is fairly irrelavent, in my opinion. Programming concepts & problem solving skills carry over to just about all languages and make it easy to pick up new ones. I'm not an aspiring programmer so I don't really go deep into languages & computer science, just write basic programs that work for me. How's computer engineering working out for you? I am studying electric engineering myself.

Well it's not too bad, it's heavily based in electrical engineering, and those classes are harder than computer science classes (for me anyway). I agree that language doesn't matter a whole lot, but each language has its own unique uses.

I do a bit of C++ programming for the Arduino. I have done a bit of PHP but never really got into it. BASIC is still the best programming language by far :-P

Do anything fun with the Arduino?

Well I'm still learning it but I have made a few projects. Like a sort of Analog/Digital hybrid clock that used an LED display for the minutes and individual LEDs for the hours. I've also used it for PWM control and I've experimented with the TVout and keyboard library.

That's what I'm always curious about when I look at devices like the "Teensy" which is an Arduino varient as far as I know, how complicated is it to get something like that to drive a TV or VGA monitor?

Driving a TV is easy, all you need is two resistors and a composite video cable and the TVout library. However, the resolution is pretty low and its only in black and white. As for VGA, well I think you can get an add-on board to do that but I'm not sure. I believe there is also a device that gives you the same kind of sound a graphics as a Commodore 64 but I've forgotten what it was called.

Java, C, and Python. I've recently used C to write a small game for the Sega Genesis (SGDK makes it really easy), and Python to deploy a web application I hope to scrape some ad revenue from. Java will most likely be paying the bills in the coming months.

I walked up to an IBM table once at a career fair; I told them I hadn't done any Java and they directed me to hardware. I guess at IBM if you don't know Java you aren't useful as a programmer.
