BrandonCrunchbang! My favorite Linux
I recently asked what your favorite Linux distro was and didn't get any responses, so I'll tell about mine. Crunchbang! Linux is based on Debian and uses a lightweight desktop and window manager as well as other light applications to make it run fast. It uses less than 100MB of RAM idle (Debian 7 Wheezy GNOME 3 uses ~.5GB) but because it's based on Debian and uses Debian repositories its very easy to find and install software. Admittedly, it's not for the Linux n00b, you should be comfortable with the command line because often times GUI tools don't work or the menus don't automatically update like in other systems. If that is a big problem for you, it's easy to change to a different application launcher or to a whole different desktop environment. If you are looking for a new Linux distro for an old machine or even for your main computer (or in a VM), it's definitely worth a try. http://crunchbang.org/
