Brandon | 486 BenchmarksI plan to benchmark my 2 486s, one is a 33MHz Intel 486SX and the other has a 66Mhz AMD 486. I have LINPACK for DOS, so I should be able to compile my results and let you know what DOSBox Cycle speed is ideal. The only issue is that I want to be able to easily transfer data to and from my 486s, so I bought a few (3) CF adapters with PCI bracket out of Hong Kong, so I can make the 486 think the CF is a hard drive and my linux laptop will think its a removable disk. Once the adapters come in the mail I'll publish my findings here on the forum. | 2010-03-12 | 10:15 PM |

Uh... the cycles in DOSBox are machine-dependent. | 2010-03-13 | 11:19 AM |
Brandon | Re:486 BenchmarksWell I can give a rough estimate of what DOSBox cycle count to use, anyways.

Brandon | Re:486 BenchmarksWell the CF adapters came and I got a 32MB one with FreeDOS. I figured out that the codebase I have for Fun500 6 is too slow to me used, so I'm going to be brainstorming a new design.

HorvatM | Re:486 BenchmarksSo what's Fun500 6.0 going to be like? An improvement of 5.x (hopefully) or yet another complete redesign?
Why do you think it's too slow? Try optimizing it. | 2010-03-21 | 6:17 AM |
Brandon | About Fun500 6I do not know for sure what Fun500 6 will bring, I do know that my FreeBASIC Windowing engine is too slow on a 486 to be used. I mean slow ...as in unreative. Fun500 6 will not be just a service pack to 5 or it would be 5.x.x, 6 means there will be a major rewrite. Most of the "problems" you have with Fun500 5 are that way by design, but Fun500 6 try to work a little better with them. I do plan to make an extensive dialog system, however. | 2010-03-21 | 9:13 AM |
