hey brandon? do you think that it would be possible to make a search engine on The Gui Blog for the forum so you could just search for a key word or phrase and find what you are looking for?

Seconded. Haven't I requested this before?

Writing such a thing would be difficult, although it would be very easy to put a Google custom search box on the site. If you do opt for it, Brandon, do a google search for Zend Search Lucene. It's a PHP library for doing shit like this.

Let's test a google search here first:

The Google search box works OK, but it would be way better to have a mailing list-like search where you can specify whether you want to search by subject, author, body, and in which category.

Well I'll add a search system to my ever growing list of things you would like me to do. As it is I have a long enough list after real life, I don't have loads of free time. And I spend my time how I feel it should be prioritized, right now I have a lot of things to fix on the blog but they aren't that hight priority to me, the site is still running and hasn't fallen apart. However, a search system like the one you request would take lots of time, and would have, in my opinion, little benefit over a Google one. The Google one doesn't seem to want to format itself so you can see the page numbers, so I don't think I'll integrate it right away, but I'll keep it in mind, and for that matter anyone could set up a custom Google search. Feel free to set one up and I'll integrate it. I often wonder if you understand the GUI community, you always ask for things that are way above what someone would do for fun, there really isn't any other reason to make GUIs, and if you keep nagging people, you take away the fun. Back on topic, The Blog has a lot of work that it needs done before an integrated search engine, a lot of it was built with the idea that the system would trust the end user, so there's a couple flaws, things need to be modified so that JavaScript can't be in signatures, and posts, and on top of that the user system could use work, oh and I need to add forum categories, A search engine really doesn't seem like it should be top priority right now (PS: even if it is a good idea, tacodrake)

The google search is sufficient for me. I'd much rather have it than nothing (I often want to search the blog). If you do find time, Brandon, please put it somewhere.
