| Todd | Costa back in actionIf you go to Jacob's site: http://costa.jacobpalm.dk/ you'll see Costa's back in development. | 2008-08-20 | 9:00 PM |
| Brandon | Re:Costa back in actionHoly shit, Chicken Little was right, the sky is falling. You posted something I didn't know, and Costa is back?? I guess all it took was a good admin and a forum(the more likely answer) and things are going back to the way things were. I'd be cool if Jacob came here, although I don't think I can ever forgive him.
PS: How did you find it? He must have e-mailed you?
BTW: I installed OpenSUSE and let me say, its not to shabby. | 2008-08-20 | 9:40 PM |
| Todd | Re:Costa back in actionI haven't heard from Jacob in a long time. I found it just by going to his site one day.
What's OpenSUSE like? | 2008-08-20 | 9:44 PM |
| Brandon | Re:Costa back in actionI sent an invite to his e-mail. Hopefully he shows up and its like old times. B)
OpenSUSE is like most other distos. Its fairly fast but I prefer APT-GET. My problem is Ubuntu sucks a--, so I need to get real Debian. | 2008-08-20 | 9:58 PM |
| Todd | Re:Costa back in actionUbuntu used to be great but it's starting to get bad, sadly. After HardyHeron, it seems like they'll need to really make something great to make a good comeback.
I prefer apt-get too but if you want fun with package managers, try Open/FreeBSD distros. I can't find the app that acts as the package manager. I think it's "pkg_add" but it's very basic. You supply an HTTP URL to download the package file and it adds it to the system. | 2008-08-20 | 11:02 PM |
| aguma | Re:Costa back in actionApt-get is fun, I sometimes spend like half an hour typing in weird names of programs for it to try to find lol | 2008-08-20 | 11:24 PM |
| Todd | Re:Costa back in actionWhat kind of sucks about apt-get is that if one program requires other programs and libraries installed, you can't avoid it. It really sucks because I remember fighting it to install Apache 1.3 with mod_rewrite but it was forcing me to upgrade to Apache 2.0 or it wouldn't install. | 2008-08-21 | 12:00 AM |
| Brandon | Re:Costa back in actionOpenSUSE made me update OpenOffice and Java, so I could install GIMP!!! And Aguma, if you use synaptic its less typing and more clicking. | 2008-08-21 | 8:06 AM |
| ysft | Re:Costa back in actionIf you are going to try Open/FreeBSD, instead of using pkg_add you could try the ports system. It has a list of thousands of software and it downloads the source (+ all dependencies) and compiles it for you. It takes a while to do that but its worth it. | 2008-08-21 | 10:16 AM |
| Brandon | Re:Costa back in actionysft, Does Costa coming back inspire you? | 2008-08-21 | 10:37 AM |
| ysft | Re:Costa back in actionUhh, No. In what way would it inspire me? | 2008-08-21 | 10:40 AM |
