| Brandon | The DevilAnyone who's talked to me about Linux knows how I feel about Ubuntu. Its the Devil. When I finally made the big switch to Linux it was Ubuntu I used and within 6 months I had trashed it, to the point were it was slowed down, like a windows release. I have tried every distro in the Top 5 and half of the top 50, and somehow I'm back to Ubuntu. What I ask of Linux:
-Firefox+Pidgin
-FreeBASIC and Geany as IDE
-Music Collection app (like iTunes, Rhythbox, or Amarok)
-Stability
Its Amazing that of all the distros none meet this! Last time I used Ubuntu it was 7.04 and I think I upgraded to 7.1, My eee has used eeeXubuntu for a few months so lets see how Ubuntu 8.04 works for me! | 2008-10-13 | 3:17 PM |
| Todd | Re:The DevilNothing is perfect. Every OS will have its share of bugs. I do agree Ubuntu hasn't gotten much better but every other version seems to have some consistent favorability over its predecessor. | 2008-10-13 | 3:41 PM |
| ksr | Re:The DevilWhat's wrong with openSUSE? You introduced me to it, and now I'm using it on my laptop 24/7. | 2008-10-13 | 3:49 PM |
| Brandon | Re:The DevilI couldn't get Geany working, and I didn't want to have to mess with compiling myself. I might mess with it again sometime, other than that not much really, OpenSUSE is good.
Oh and Novell sells Linux? WTF? | 2008-10-13 | 4:14 PM |
| Todd | Re:The DevilNo offense, but wake up to reality. Nothing is perfect. If an OS was perfect, it would knock every other OS off the competition. It's like stacking dominos to build a tower. Eventually it'll fall down, but the ones that we're most comfortable using are the ones we prefer.
You can't expect to crash a car into a wall and be completely safe and be able to drive it without any problems. | 2008-10-13 | 4:33 PM |
| Brandon | Re:The DevilI'm not asking for perfection, just the few things I want to work right.
Heck I could boot WinXP or MacOS and have:
-Firefox+Pidgin
-FreeBASIC and Geany as IDE
-Music Collection app (like iTunes, Rhythbox, or Amarok)
-Stability
But why don't I?? I want something new, or different, anymore its not finding what works better, but just changing things up. | 2008-10-13 | 4:38 PM |
| Todd | Re:The DevilDCL doesn't run all those? Puppy's stable as it is and you loaded Pidgin, Firefox, and FreeBASIC on it. | 2008-10-13 | 4:46 PM |
| Brandon | Re:The DevilMusic Collection app (like iTunes, Rhythbox, or Amarok) And I found DCL kind of slow because it only supports one core. | 2008-10-13 | 4:52 PM |
| Todd | Re:The DevilSo why not make another distro with a music app? | 2008-10-13 | 5:16 PM |
| Brandon | Re:The DevilWell I'm waiting for things in the puppy world to slow down a little, the main guy is retiring and they are switching shit like crazy, I'm waiting for a good stable release before going back to Puppy. And installing a music player like rythmbox in Puppy would take a few hours.
